The One Piece pics I do NOT own, the are drawn by the masterful mangaka Eiichiro Oda, I merely colored them ...very amatuerly.

The photographs though, I do own since I took them with a simple digital camera.

I've been lurking at DA for years and only recently have I submitted anything...despite having pictures from a vacation in 2007.

I'm new to using Photoshop 8, or to any related software. I haven't tried to use manipulation yet, I'm still learning to use all the features in edit! Advise (and links are welcome.

Personal Quote: 'To live is to laugh'

I have been a fan of Usopp from the One Piece Manga for long time. It shows in my faves files. While I have a lot of files for One Piece, Usopp is the only character to get his own fave file. Heck I check daily for any new deviations for Usopp. Monthy I check using various spellings 'Usoppu', 'Lysopp', his alias' 'Sogeking', 'King of Snipers', 'Mansopp',  and even misspelled name 'Usop', 'Ussopp',

As such, I have seen a lot of art of Usopp. And yes I have seen some art thieves.

Happily, I've not seen too much of "full out theft", where they take the full image and repost it without altering it. Out of the 9 years I've been here, I personally  experienced only 2 people that tried to say a certain image of Usopp was their own. I proved those people wrong by giving a link to the original with the date when they were posted. Worked both times *smug*

But I've seen a lot of art theft in banners.

Some are people that took the image, cropped it, maybe took out the background and add some sort of addition and made a banner. Sorry that is still art theft if you didn't ask the original artist if its okay to use their work!   Ask, some of these artists are flattered that another person wants to use their art in a banner work ... as long as the person gives credit to the original artist.

Some people used the original image as inspiration, they didn't  'copy & paste' the original image, they drew it them themselves. It shows in the quality or style of art but forget to give credit to the original artist. In my experience, most are not deceitful, they are either A- just forgetful people or B- found the image on some other site and didn't know who the artist is.

Really people, is is so hard to say "I love this image so much, if I give you credit, may I use it in a sig (or banner)?" That doesn't even take half a minute to type! Some artist are more relaxed and allow usage if there is credit is given, some won't.

Oh some people may not ask since they think that the artist will say no. Guess what?
That is the artist's right!

As I said I have a lot of pics of Usopp faved. If I see a Deviation  being used and someone didn't give credit, I will review and comment they need to give  credit, I will try to give a link to original for that person -and anyone seeing it- to follow to original artist. AS I said, some will allow their work to be used in banners. Not all, but some will. However, I will also notify the original artist about it. IF the theif refuses to give credit, ignores us, or tries to claim its not theft , they will be reported.

I have noticed that there are two images of Usopp that are very popular for thieves to use, and yes they have been on the site for a long time.

I am waiting to get permission from the two artists. In the mean time I will add links

Permission obtained :)

Want proof that some artists are okay if you use their work as inspiration in your drawing as long as you credit them? SybLaTorture has allowed two people who obviously redrew (not copy/paste as their own) the "Sniper" image to keep their images up. The art styles are different from Syb's, showing that they drew it but since its her image, it would have been art theft if they didn't give credit to her for the original. Frankly they did a good homage to that popular piece.
